I went to county jail in 1995 for a sale to an undercover cop. Little did I know I would be going to prison after having been to county jail 86 times. I was shot, stabbed, hit by a van and pronounced dead four times from drug overdose. I was an out of control crack head. So I was in jail waiting to go to prison for the first time in my life. I had a lot of anger in me and I hated myself. I will never forget the man of God who came into the jail and preached the gospel of Jesus Christ to the captives. Everybody knew him from the streets. He would say, “God & I love you bro. Come to the service and hear what the Lord has to say to you.” I thank God for my brother and his obedience. If not for him, I would not be saved today. He also gave me an awesome Arsenal Prayer that I do daily.

I was now on my way to prison. I had given my life to the Lord in the county jail, but I was still doing some bad things, things that weren’t pleasing to God. In prison, I was out of my comfort zone. Nobody knew who I was! I was just a number. I saw people in there doing terrible things to others and because I was in a wheelchair, it made me an easy victim. I fell down on my knees and I said, “Lord, if You are anything that he told me You are, please show up right now. I need you Jesus.” I was crying like a baby. I was broken and knew I couldn’t do anything else on my own. I knew that I needed Jesus & He put His hedge of protection around me. None of the stuff that was going on in there came near me. I was protected by the blood of Jesus. Then those men who were hurting others were coming to me for prayer. I was a light in the belly of the beast and God used me right there to shine His light to those who thought they didn’t need a Savior! The brother told me that God would use me if I surrendered everything.

Since my experience in prison, God has truly blessed me. He gave me a soul mate and a beautiful daughter. God saw fit to allow me to be a steward over His ministry. He has given me charge over His outreach ministry that goes out into the streets and shows the love of Jesus to those who are beaten down by the streets, the homeless, the drug addicts and the street-walkers. God has placed people in my life so that I may do what He has called me to do.

Only Jesus could take a messed up sinner like me and make a true man of God out of him. Why you might ask? He did this miracle because the Bible says, “…all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) I love the Lord with all of my heart, mind, and soul and He has called me according to His purpose! God has allowed me to go back into jail where I was held captive 86 times to preach and teach His most Holy Word. He has opened up the prison doors so that I could go in and set the captives free and to mend the broken hearted. I want to always remember that if it had not been for Jesus, I would be dead. My prayer today is, “Lord, don’t ever let me get so big that I can’t go back to the streets and be a witness. Don’t ever let me get so big that I forget where You brought me from and don’t ever let me get so big that I start to delegate Your ministry to others. I want to always be able to go back into the muck and mire and do what You have called me to do…to show Your love and preach and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I pray that my testimony will open up someone’s eyes and allow them to see the glory of the true and living God. My heart is to go out and tell the world about Jesus Christ, the One who saved my life and my soul, and the One who will do the same for them if they let Him into their heart. God bless my brother in Christ that the Lord sent me.
